As their family business grew, their customers expressed a desire to send the rest of their linen to the company. To meet this new demand, the brothers decided to expand their business in 1929, building a brand-new state of the art laundry premises in Edmonton which they named, Little Bill.
Constructed on an acre and a half of ground in Brettenham Road, N18, the new laundry plant and equipment was installed by the then well-known British engineering company Baker Perkins Ltd.
Little Bill, the company’s ‘mascot’ was cleverly sketched by British Graphic Artist and cartoonist Alfred Leete, who gained fame for his WW1 ‘Lord Kitchener Wants You’ advertisement and witty London Underground posters.
Little Bill can be seen in his smart attire and polished shoes, holding a ‘little bill’ in his hand - a comical reference to the company offering customers a ‘quality service which they can afford’, in the words of Mr Leonard himself.
